An international venue for production and showcasing work by artists and musicians in Bergen, Norway.
Bergen Kjøtt is a 4 – storey factory building of 2000 square meters, converted into studios for more than 100 artists and musicians. The Bergen Kjøtt venue is used for exhibitions, concerts and events and can facilitate up to 1000 audience members.
A cafe/bar is underway in the entrance area.
Initiator and primus motor for the project is Annine Birkeland, who runs Bergen Kjøtt through Bergen Contemporary Art Project (BCAP), on a not-for-profit basis.
Bergen Kjøtt was set up to
provide an alternative space for professional artists and musicians in Bergen to work, meet and collaborate, as well as initiate and organise various events at the in house venue. Key aims for the Bergen Kjøtt community include professionalisation, exchanges of knowledge and internationalisation.
Visual arts initiatives at Bergen Kjøtt, including Never or Now festival, are organised by REAL Projects, an independent subgroup of BCAP, set up by Annine Birkeland in collaboration with visual artist Agnes Nedregard.
REAL projects is a non-profit initiative for bringing international visual artists to Bergen, Norway, and forming exchanges and collaborations with artists and organisers in Europe and beyond.
The aim of REAL Projects is to create spaces for dynamic meetings between artists and organisers from various disciplines and nationalities, to generate opportunities for collaborations and initiatives across borders. One of our our prime focuses is performance art, for its abilities for communication between artists and audiences, as well as its frequently multi-disciplinary nature.
